Imported Flooring and Decking Species:

Merbau - The Merbu heartwood is a yellowish to orange-brown when first cut but with age turns darker to brown or reddish-brown. The grain is variable but usually interlocked or wavy with distinct yellow gold flicks. Texture is coarse but even. Merbau is a durability class 1 hardwood and is firerated. Origin: South-east Asia, the Philippines, Solomon Islands, Fiji and Papua New Guinea. Dry Density: 850 kg/m3 Janka Dry Hardness: 8.6kN

Kapur – Kapurs sapwood is well defined and a yellow brown in colour. The heartwood is reddish brown. The grain is straight and slightly inter- locked and sometimes deeply interlocked. The raw texture of Kapur is moderately course and even; however the finish of the decking is smooth. Kapur is a durability class 2 hardwood. Origin: Malaysia/Indonesia. Dry Density: 815 kg/m3 Janka Dry Hardness: 5.5 kN

Yellow Balau – The colour of Yellow balau decking can be described as a light brown with a reddish tinge or reddish dark brown with a tinge of yellow as the name describes. The grain is interlocked, often giving rise to faint strip figure. The texture is fine and even, machining to a smooth finish. Yellow Balau is a durability class 2 hardwood. Origin: south-east Asia. Dry Density: 850 kg/m3 Janka Dry Hardness: 8 kN

American White Oak - American White Oak colour is described as golden honey browns with some boards exposing hints of soft pink tones. Large distinctive growth rings are characteristic of American Oak. Back-Sawn boards expose the grain in way that shows interesting and pronounced grain pattern. Origin: East Coast of America. Dry Density750kg/m3 Janka Dry Hardness: 6kN

Spotted Gum (NSW) - This colour varies from pale greybrowns and soft creams to a rich chocolate brown. A very durable timber, its frequent wavy grain presence can produce an attractive and highly valued fiddleback figure.Spotted Gum is a durability class 1 hardwood and is fire rated. Origin: Australia. Dry Density: 950 kg/m3 Janka Dry Hardness: 11 kN

Spotted Gum (QLD) - Darker in color than NSW Spotted Gum, QLD Spotted Gum varies from pale greybrowns and soft creams to a dark rich chocolate brown. A very durable timber, its frequent wavy grain presence can produce an attractive and highly valued fiddleback figure. QLD Spotted Gum is slightly denser, stronger and more durable than its southern species. Spotted Gum is a durability class 1 hardwood and is fire rated.Origin: Australia. Dry Density: 980 kg/m3 Janka Dry Hardness: 12 kN

Grey Ironbark - Ironbark produces a stunning array of timber hues from pale brown to dark chocolate brown as well as dark red. The grain is usually interlocked, with a moderately coarse texture. Grey Ironbark is a durability class 1 hardwood and is fire rated. Origin: Australia. Dry Density: 1090 kg/m3 Janka Dry Hardness: 14 kN

Red Ironbark - Red Ironbark is extremely hard. Its colour varies from pale to rich reds as well as browns. The grain is usually interlocked, with a moderately coarse texture. Red Ironbark is a durability class 1 hardwood and is fire rated. Origin: Australia. Dry Density: 1090 kg/m3Janka Dry Hardness: 13 kN

Turpentine - Turpentine is a highly durable hardwood species that is commonly grown in New South Wales and southern Queensland. In colour, it varies from pale to dark reddishbrown through to deep chocolate brown. It has a straight grain and coarse but even texture. Turpentine is a durability class 1 hardwood and is fire rated. Origin: Australia. Dry Density: 930 kg/m3 Janka Dry Hardness: 12 kN

Tallowood - Tallowwood is a prestigious timber that is sought after by architects both here and abroad. It is an exceptionally durable hardwood species with unique colour and grain structure. It is predominately yellowish brown with a tinge of olive green and beautiful growth rings. Tallow- ood is a durability class 1 hardwood.Origin: Australia. Dry Density: 990 kg/m3 Janka Dry Hardness: 8.6 kN

Brushbox - Brushbox has long been sought after for its unique properties and aesthetic qualities. It has a fine and even texture with a beauti- ful, rich colour. It can vary from pale pinkish grey to rich reddish brown. Brushbox is a durability class 1 hardwood. Origin: Australia. Dry Density: 900 kg/m3 Janka Dry Hardness: 9.5 kN

Blue Gum - Also known as Sydney Blue Gum, its colour varies from a dark rich pink right through to reds and browns. Its grain and texture is straight and will slightly interlock occasionally, and is moderately coarse and even, machining smooth. It has a diverse variety of colours and stunning grain, and is a timeless favourite both in Australia and abroad.Blue gum is a durability class 2 hardwood. Origin: East coast of Australia. Dry Density: 900kg/m2 Janka Dry Hardness: 9 kN

Tasmanian Oak- Tasmanian oak is a blend of 3 species of hardwood, produced by three trees: Eucalyptus regnans, Eucalyptus obliqua and Eucalyptus delegatensis. Together they produce a blend of beautiful colouring varying from straw to reddish brown with intermediate shades of cream to pink. Tasmanian Oak logs are quarter sawn to produce an extremely straight and even grain, providing excellent dimensional stability. This species is recognised for its excellent staining qualities. Tasmanian Oak is a durability class 3 – 4 hardwood. Dry Density: 700 kg/m3Janka Dry Hardness: 5.7 kN

Cypress Pine - The heartwood ranges in colour from dark chocolate through to pale browns while the sapwood is pale yellow. Dark knot holes contrast with the heartwood and sapwood. Its texture is very fine and even, the grain is straight and knots are very common. Cypress Pine does not require any form of chemical treatment to prevent damage by termites. Although botanically a softwood its properties relate more closely to medium density hardwoods. Origin: Australia. Dry Density: 680 kg/m3 Janka Dry Hardness: 6.5kN
